PASTEL PAINTINGS - I work with soft pastels and jars of pigment. My paper has a rough surface similar to sandpaper and can hold many layers of color.  I am able to blend for hours before the paper's surface starts to break down. This process allows me smooth transitions and infinite color possibilities.
